Year Books.

12/7/2011

I am sure not a lot of citizen's are wishing they were still in school.....that is very understandable as the summers can be magical here. However, why not take a look at people who have been out of school for a long time? Come on in and check out yearbooks today.

We are also looking for yearbooks that can be donated or lent out to be scanned and then returned. We have a gap between the 1930-50's and a few of the 70's 80's and 90's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As  a reward for reading here is a possible trivia question at for the Town Celebrations Program. When was the first yearbook brought to Magrath?

The Magrath Mirror

The Magrath Mirror Newspaper has been a real treat to scan into our records. It is filled with news, advertisements, comics, funny stories and advice columns. We are currently scanning in the years 1950-51. Come on in and see for yourself!

Sneak Peak!

6/7/2011

Here is a little sneak peak to some of the trivia questions that may be asked at the town celebration!

1. What was the first movie played in Magrath?
2. Who was the first Mayor, and who is the Mayor now?
3. Who is Magrath named after?

Beat the crowd and come on into the Museum for the answers to these questions, and even get further hints on more questions that will be asked!

As July has officially started it is now time to prepare for the Town Celebrations. It has been greatly debated which was better, Christmas or the Celebrations and to be quite honest it is a toss up for most people. It is a magical time of year!

This year at the Magrath Celebrations we will be having Trivia Questions throughout the 6-8 Town Program. ( Right after beef on a bun.) A preview to the questions and answers will be given through tours, the website, twitter and our facebook. Come on in and get a jump start on the answers! Prizes will be given to those who answer correctly first.

Olympics

2/7/2011

I stumbled across this article donated by Dr. Steele Brewerton. I did not know that we had had this opportunity in Magrath. I also appreciate the P.S note and found it quite witty. Give it a read and see if anyone remembers this trip.
Magrath Cardston Division Marching Band

Director: Boyd M Hunter

To: All Members of Band Parents Association.

From: Executive Committee.

Subject: Montreal Activities ( 1976 Olympiciad)

At a special general meeting of January 21, 1976, the parents present and the band executives discussed the possibility of going to Montreal, July 15-22/76. It was the feeling of the majority of the people that this would be a great opportunity for the band students. At this meeting we also decided each student would pay to Mrs. Sue Kado, treasurer, the sum of $10.00 minimum each month. ( Feb-July) Since then the following has been materialized:

1. We will be leaving Calgary at 10:40 A.M. July 15th and return to Calgary July 22nd at 5:30 P.M.

2. We will be playing Two sit-down concerts.

3. We will be doing an outdoor field show for 12,00 people.

4. One Street Parade.

5. We have been invited to participate at three Expo baseball games (which were internationally broadcasted.)

6. We will be visiting "Man and His World" on complimentary visas.

7. Our housing has been taken care of.

8. We are waiting invitations for opening of Olympic events.

9. We are arranging tickets for some Olympic events.

10. Bus tours will be taken of Historical important places.

We hope you feel this information gives you a little insight into the plans thus far. We will keep you informed on any further developments.

At this time, we the executives would like to thank each and every parent for all your assistance. We will not be able to carry on without the help of all the parents. Again, our sincere thanks to one and all.

P.S.

Parents: if you don't hear music instruments practicing in your home, please encourage them to produce some music for your ears as Mr. Hunter feels more practice at home is needed and is necessary to remain as the Top Band in competition.

Sincerely yours,

Band Executive.
